A good HR training course teaches four areas of work. These are HR basics, HR planning, staff development and engagement. In 2026, HR teams also need to show results to management. This post explains each area. It also gives you a self-check to find the gaps in your team.
Learn these skills in the course Human Resources (BL-HR).
Who Needs HR Training
HR executives, HR managers and supervisors who manage people need it. Business owners who do the HR work themselves also need it. New HR staff learn what the job includes. Experienced HR staff learn to plan and to measure.
The Four Areas an HR Course Covers
The Kognifi course Human Resources (BL-HR) has four modules. Each module gives your team one area of HR work.
| Module | What Your Team Learns | What They Do After the Course |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Understanding HR Fundamentals | The role, tasks and structure of the HR function | Map the HR tasks your company needs, with one owner for each task |
| 2. Strategic HR Planning | How to align HR plans with the business goals | Make a workforce plan for next year with the leadership team |
| 3. Employee Development and Performance Management | Succession, career development, appraisal, improvement plans and rewards | Run a fair appraisal and a performance improvement plan |
| 4. Employee Engagement | Training, counselling, staff surveys and engagement programmes | Measure engagement with a survey and act on the results |
Check Your Team in Five Minutes
Answer each question with yes or no. Each “no” shows a module that your team needs.
| No. | Question | If “No”, Start With |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Does each HR task have one owner? | Module 1 |
| 2 | Can your team explain the role of HR to line managers? | Module 1 |
| 3 | Is there a written workforce plan for next year? | Module 2 |
| 4 | Do the HR plans link to the business goals of the company? | Module 2 |
| 5 | Is there a successor for each key role? | Module 3 |
| 6 | Do all managers use one appraisal process and one rating guide? | Module 3 |
| 7 | Do you measure staff engagement at least once a year? | Module 4 |
| 8 | Do you act on the survey results within 30 days? | Module 4 |
How to Choose the Right HR Course
- Do the self-check with your HR team and two line managers.
- Count the “no” answers for each module. The module with the most “no” answers is your first priority.
- Ask for the course outline. Compare its modules with your gaps.
- Choose public or in-house training. For a group from one company, in-house training can use your own HR cases.
- Is your company registered with HRD Corp? Then check the course type: HRD Corp Claimable Course (SBL-KHAS). The HRD Corp page explains the claim.
- Before the course, agree one action per module for your team to do after it.
Example: A Manufacturer With 120 Staff
Take a manufacturer in Shah Alam with 120 staff and an HR team of three. The team answers “no” to questions 3, 5 and 7. There is no workforce plan, no successor for key roles and no staff survey. The priority is Module 2, then Module 3. After the course, the HR manager writes a workforce plan with the plant manager. The team then names a successor for each key role.
Try It This Week
Print the eight questions. Ask your HR team and two line managers to answer them on their own. Compare the answers in a 30-minute meeting. Write down the one module your team needs first.
